Nathan MacKinnon and Sidney Crosby are both from Nova Scotia, and they're good friends. On Friday, one got the win and the other got the history.
Pittsburgh jumped out 2-0 in Denver on goals 29 seconds apart. Then Colorado scored five straight. MacKinnon had a power-play goal and three assists, Artturi Lehkonen scored twice, and the Avalanche won 5-2, per the AP. MacKinnon is now 12-6-3 against his buddy.
The feel-good bonus: T.J. Hughes scored his first NHL goal, on a MacKinnon pass, and got a playful water-bottle squirt from captain Gabriel Landeskog on the way back to the bench.
Crosby's consolation prize is a big one. His assist moved him into sole possession of seventh in NHL history with 1,110, one shy of Ray Bourque's record for the most with a single franchise.
Next up: Colorado plays at Philadelphia on Monday.
