The Philadelphia Eagles placed Jalen Hurts on injured reserve Saturday because of a blood clot in his calf, ESPN and NFL Network reported. He's out indefinitely. Health first; the football stuff can wait.
Per ESPN's sources, Philly checked with a lot of doctors before deciding, and believes the clot is treatable. Here's the catch: blood clots are usually treated with blood thinners, and a player can't play while on them. Doctors around the league who haven't examined Hurts told ESPN it could be about six weeks, but nobody's putting a firm date on it.
At minimum, Hurts misses games against the Panthers, Cowboys, Commanders and Giants before Philadelphia's Week 10 bye. Tanner McKee starts Sunday, and the Eagles added Joe Milton from Dallas' practice squad for depth.
The timing is rough. The offense was already near the bottom of the league in points (29th) and yards (31st), and has gone seven straight regular-season games without scoring 25. McKee's audition starts now.
