The Philadelphia Flyers started Saturday at 0-6-3, the worst start in franchise history. Coach Rick Tocchet asked someone special to speak to the team after the morning skate: Jason Myrtetus of the Flyers Broadcast Network.

Myrtetus is fighting Stage 4 colorectal cancer. Neither man has shared what he told the players, but Tocchet described the room once Myrtetus left: "a little bit of a pause or a silence," he said, per NHL.com. "This guy's going through stuff that (we) can't imagine what he's going through."

That night, Philadelphia beat Ottawa 3-1 for its first win of the season, with goals from Porter Martone, Matvei Michkov and Trevor Zegras. Tocchet walked into his press conference holding a puck and flipped it to Myrtetus. "Before I start, game puck to Jason, by the way. What a speech today," he said.

In the locker room, captain Sean Couturier gave Myrtetus the team's Rocky gloves, its player-of-the-game award, and he pulled them on while the players cheered.

What's next: The Flyers (1-6-3) host Colorado on Monday at 7 p.m. ET. A "Strike Out Cancer" fundraiser for Myrtetus is set for Oct. 25 in South Philadelphia, 97.5 The Fanatic reported.
