When a hockey game is tied after three periods, it goes to overtime: a short extra period where the next goal wins. In Montreal, that's basically become Cole Caufield time.

On Saturday night, the Canadiens let a two-goal lead slip and found themselves tied 3-3 with Buffalo. Then, 54 seconds into overtime, Josh Norris missed a shot on a Sabres 3-on-1 rush. Caufield took off the other way on a breakaway and ripped the puck into the top-left corner. Montreal won 4-3.

It was Caufield's second goal of the night. More importantly, it was his 14th regular-season overtime goal, extending his own franchise record. For a team with as much history as the Canadiens, that's a big deal.

Coach Martin St-Louis kept his review short. "Big goal, Cole," he said, per the team.

The Habs also noted it was their second overtime game against Buffalo this week. They beat the Sabres in a shootout on Tuesday, too. Sorry, Buffalo.

What's next: Montreal hosts San Jose on Tuesday at 5 p.m. MT.
