Washington's offense has been missing pieces for weeks. On Monday night, it loses one more and might get one back.
Running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt, the team's leading rusher with 239 yards and two touchdowns, is out against the San Francisco 49ers with a groin injury, coach Dan Quinn said Saturday. Quinn called it a reinjury. Croskey-Merritt missed the final two preseason games with a groin problem and had just one carry after the third quarter of last week's 27-27 tie with the Giants.
That leaves the backfield to Rachaad White, who was limited Friday with a shoulder issue, and Austin Ekeler, who has been limited with a chest issue. Jeremy McNichols could also come off injured reserve, per ESPN's John Keim.
The potential good news is at receiver. Stefon Diggs, who missed the Giants game with a hamstring injury, was limited Friday, and Quinn didn't say whether he'd play. If he does, it'll be the first time Diggs, Terry McLaurin and quarterback Jayden Daniels have been on the field together since Week 2.
What's next: The Commanders (1-3-1) visit the 5-0 49ers on Monday at 8:15 p.m. ET on ESPN and ABC.
