For years, Draymond Green has been the Warriors' point guard in a power forward's body, bringing the ball up and directing traffic from the top of the key. In his 15th season, coach Steve Kerr is changing that.
“The whole point for him early in camp, get down the floor,” Kerr said, per Sports Illustrated. “We don’t want him trailing the play.” That means more time in the corners and on the wings in a five-out offense, where all five players start spread around the three-point line.
The big reason is turnovers. Green's assist-to-turnover ratio slipped to 2.1-to-1 last season, his worst since 2013-14, Hoops Rumors noted from a San Francisco Chronicle story. “For the most part, I think what it boils down to is, ultimately, trust,” Green told the Chronicle.
So far, so good. Kerr has said Green has been “all in,” and he had 10 assists in 24 minutes in Friday's preseason win over Portland, per ESPN's box score.
What's next: The Warriors open the season Wednesday at 10 p.m. ET against the Lakers on ESPN. Look for Green in the corner, possibly pointing at everyone.
