Every rookie has something to get used to. For New England Patriots quarterback Behren Morton, it's the weather.
Morton grew up in Eastland, Texas, and played at Texas Tech, so autumn was mostly a rumor. "You actually get a true fall," he told ESPN's Mike Reiss. "That's something I never got in Texas, because it usually goes summer straight into winter. Seeing the leaves turn, get the fall feeling, it's football season."
The seventh-round pick has been developing behind the scenes, running the scout team, imitating the opponent's quarterback in practice. His favorite week so far was playing Josh Allen and copying his "little tricks of the trade." New England then won that Sunday.
Learning the playbook makes him feel like he's "been here for 20 years already," and he has been studying film of Tom Brady running the same offense.
Coach Mike Vrabel likes the rookie class. "They're very coachable," he said. "Much more coachable than some of the veterans, that's why I like coaching them."
What's next: New England (3-2) hosts the Jets on Sunday, Oct. 18, at 1 p.m. ET, and first-round pick Caleb Lomu could make his first start at left tackle, per ESPN.
