Imagine your favorite NBA player warming up in your kid's jersey. For Steve Burton, a Boston sports broadcaster, that happened on Friday.
Before the Warriors' final preseason game against Portland at Chase Center, Steph Curry went through warmups in a No. 22 Veronica Burton Golden State Valkyries jersey. Her dad's reaction on X: "This is pretty surreal. My favorite NBA player, Steph Curry, is warming up in my daughter's jersey. GO VALKS!!!"
The Warriors and Valkyries share an owner and an arena, so the support runs deep. Burton has earned the shoutout, too. The point guard averaged 12.2 points and 5.7 assists this season, finishing in the WNBA's top 10 in assists per game, and her three in Game 2 of the semifinals helped Golden State take a 2-0 lead over Las Vegas.
In Saturday's 68-64 Game 1 win over Atlanta, she had five points, four rebounds and three assists, per ESPN's box score. "VERONICA DENIES," the team posted during the game.
What's next: Game 2 is Monday at 8 p.m. ET at Chase Center, with Golden State up 1-0. No word yet on whether Curry has a Game 2 outfit planned.
