Some teams fix a depth problem with a trade. The Philadelphia 76ers fixed theirs with the tallest guy they could find.
The Sixers converted Tacko Fall, who stands 7-foot-6, to a two-way contract on Saturday, ESPN's Kris Rhim reported. (A two-way deal lets a player split time between the NBA team and its G League affiliate.) He'd been in camp on a non-guaranteed Exhibit 10 deal since last month.
Why now? Injuries. Projected backup center Ariel Hukporti tore his right Achilles in the preseason and is out for the season. Adem Bona has a foot injury, and Dominick Barlow has been dealing with back soreness. Health first for all three.
Fall, 30, hasn't played in the NBA since 2021-22 with Cleveland. He most recently played for the Ningbo Rockets in China. Fun reunion alert: he spent his first two NBA seasons in Boston with Jaylen Brown, who's now a Sixer.
Philly opens the season Tuesday at 5 p.m. MT at the Knicks. Ducking through doorways is optional.
