Most teams celebrate a pennant by spraying champagne. The Milwaukee Brewers did that too, but they turned the bottles into a family photo album first.
For their National League title party Thursday, the Brewers designed special labels, each honouring a different player from Brewers postseason teams, past and present, ESPN reported. Each label lists the player's name and the year or years he played for Milwaukee in October.
So yes, somewhere in that locker room was a bottle of 1981 Rollie Fingers. There was also a 2026 David Hamilton, ready to roll. According to MLB.com's Adam McCalvy, every player who appeared in at least one postseason game for the club got a bottle.
It fits the moment. This pennant was the franchise's first since 1982, 44 years of waiting. Honouring the players who came close along the way is a classy touch. (Getting doused in your own name is also a power move.)
And they're on a streak: after beating San Diego in the NLDS, the bottles had labels with the names of Wisconsin cities.
The World Series starts Friday, Oct. 23 in Milwaukee. Four more wins and they'll need a brand-new label design.
