Nine games. Nine losses. You know those weeks when the coffee maker breaks, the bus is late and your phone dies? That was the Philadelphia Flyers' entire October.

On Saturday, it finally ended. The Flyers beat the Ottawa Senators 3-1 for their first win of the season, after opening with nine straight losses, a franchise record, per the AP.

The heroes were Matvei Michkov and Porter Martone, who each had a goal and an assist. Michkov set up Martone at the far post to tie it in the second. Then Martone returned the favour on a power play, and Michkov buried the rebound. It was Michkov's 50th career goal in 171 games, the fastest any Flyer has reached 50 since Matt Read in 2014. The team's own account summed it up: "The kids stole the show."

It also snapped a hot streak: Ottawa goalie Linus Ullmark had won his first six starts.

The Flyers (1-6-3) had scored just 11 goals in nine games, so three felt like a party. Next up: Colorado visits Monday at 5 p.m. MT.
