For three hours Thursday night, a London sports bar called Greenwood stopped existing. In its place: "Tealwood."
That was one of the Jacksonville Jaguars' pub takeovers for U.K. fans before Sunday's game against the Houston Texans at Wembley Stadium, ESPN's Michael DiRocco reported. Think cheerleaders, mascot Jaxson de Ville, highlights on 17 TVs and trivia.
The fans are the best part. Francis Sweeney has been to the team's London games for five years, and he's not even the biggest Jags fan in his house. "My wife doesn't like any sports, and she's obsessed with the Jaguars," he told ESPN.
Another superfan, Jamie Phillips, explained the appeal in the most British way possible: "I want to take after the underdog as most Brits do."
This didn't happen by accident. The Jaguars have played in London since 2013, now 15 games, according to ESPN. Their U.K. flag football program grew from about 1,200 kids in 2016 to 100,000 in 2024.
And they're on a roll over there: last week they beat the Eagles 19-17 in London on a 57-yard field goal at the buzzer. Kickoff vs. Houston is Sunday at 7:30 a.m. MT on NFL Network. Breakfast football!
