Most teams start two guards. The Spurs looked at their roster and asked, why not three?

Coach Mitch Johnson confirmed that De'Aaron Fox, Stephon Castle and Dylan Harper will start Tuesday's opener against Oklahoma City, alongside Devin Vassell and Victor Wembanyama, ESPN's Michael C. Wright reported. "We're planning on starting that same crew," Johnson said. His thinking: start games with your five best players instead of bringing one off the bench.

The trio's track record is mixed. Last season, opponents outscored them by 47 points in their 69 minutes together, including 25 minutes in the NBA Finals. This preseason, the Spurs were plus-10 in the trio's 11 minutes against Phoenix.

The big guy is on board. "The biggest thing is I've got handlers all around me," Wembanyama said. On Saturday, the Spurs also exercised the team options on Castle, Harper and Carter Bryant, a nice vote of confidence in the kids.

What's next: The Thunder visit the Spurs on Tuesday at 9:30 p.m. ET on NBC.
